Eighteen Dead as Floods Batter Mozambique
In a statement posted to Facebook, the agency confirmed that drowning accounted for the majority of fatalities. Across the country, 31 emergency accommodation centers are currently sheltering approximately 10,000 displaced persons — including four facilities in the southern province of Inhambane alone, which are housing around 4,000 evacuees.
The latest casualties compound an already catastrophic seasonal toll. According to INGD, the 2025–2026 rainy and cyclonic season has now impacted close to 1 million people nationwide, claimed 285 lives, inundated tens of thousands of homes, and caused extensive damage to schools, road networks, and farmland.
